Bloom Forest School

Pre-School ages 2-6

At Bloom- the Midland Forest School, caring and skilled mentors nurture child-led exploration and discovery, creating a life-long love of learning and respect for the Earth. By encouraging curiosity and exploration, we will help children see the beauty in all aspects of nature: from the tiniest ant to the great blue heron, from native plants to the clouds. Raising kind, capable humans is the heart of our “why.” We welcome all children of all backgrounds, religions, and households. We value respect, science, inclusion, equity, diversity, reparations, and justice.

Child-Led Learning

Children are naturally motivated to play. By utilizing play as a context for learning and encouraging children to follow their interests, Bloom kiddos will feel encouraged to learn.

Hands-on activities

Our activities are designed to keep your child engaged, whether it’s grabbing a magnifying glass to inspect a worm or acting out a song about the seasons.

Big Emotions

Even the smallest of bodies can feel great big emotions. Bloom is a safe space for children to explore, express, and work through these feelings.

Risk Taking Encouraged

By engaging in risky play, such as tree climbing, children learn they can do hard & scary things. Bloom children will feel empowered & capable of facing difficult tasks that may arise in their day-to-day lives.

Typical Day

A typical day isn’t typical! Our days look different everyday but we follow a rhythm. After a filling breakfast at home, children are welcome to play in the trees or anywhere within our safe boundary to accommodate our friends who are getting dropped off. Once everyone meanders in, we offer snack time from 9:30-10:30. They are encouraged to pick something from their bag that will give them sustained energy (like fruit snacks are fun but not filling). We check in for potty breaks and water breaks throughout the day. Lunch time is community time too! We circle up on our rug and kids are welcome to graze and continue playing (although we do strongly encourage them to *actually* slow down enough to listen to their bodies to make sure they’re full before declaring that they’re done. Our Spot Checker and Trash Checker help everyone tidy up their belongings y su basura. Speaking of basura, we work on language by doing some focused work en francés y en español. Sometimes that looks like singing “Head, shoulders, knees, and toes,” in one language or naming a body part that got a scrape. After lunch- more play!! When we have 10-15 minutes left before pickup we clean up any equipment or toys that are out, pack up our backpacks, and then we say, ” Hasta luego amigos!”

Tiered Pricing

We are committed to our community and increasing access to a nature-centered space of learning, imagination, and growth. At Bloom, we believe in inclusive community and racial equity. Therefore, we offered tiered pricing to allow more community members access this education. We focus on justice by uplifting and prioritizing BIPOC families. Additionally, we offered tiered pricing for single parents and foster families. Tiered pricing forms are available by request. If you want to learn more about why we practice tiered pricing, and what that means for us in terms of justice, and how we show up in and for our community, please feel free to ask. We love discussing justice, equity, and access. Click HERE to find out more information on our scholarship program.
